This policy explains in plain language what data is processed when you use Niyet. Everything listed below is genuinely collected; nothing that is not listed is collected.
Short summary
- You do not need to create an account. We ask for no email address, password, phone number or name.
- The app assigns you a random number in the background. It exists to carry your settings, not to identify you.
- Your location is needed for prayer times, qibla and nearby mosques, and is stored against that number.
- The photo you take to unlock focus never leaves your phone.
- No ads are shown and no data is shared with any advertising company.
- We do not sell your data.

What data is collected
Kept only on your phone
The following stays only on your phone. It is not sent to us, we hold no copy of it, and it is deleted when you delete the app.
- Your Qur'an reading progress, the verse you left off at, your khatm plan and the verses you marked
- Your dhikr counters and goals
- Your focus history: when and for how long you stayed focused
- Your theme, language, translation, reciter and appearance preferences
- Your notification settings
- Your zakat calculations and calendar notes
- The recitation recordings you downloaded
Stored with us
When the app first opens you are assigned a random number. That number matches none of your personal details — no email, no phone, no name. The following is stored against it.
- Your location
- The coordinates of where you are and the name of your city. Needed to calculate prayer times correctly, show the qibla direction and find nearby mosques. Stored so that you do not have to set things up again on a new phone.
- App information
- Which phone and operating system you use, the app version and the language you chose. Used to understand the circumstances in which a fault occurred.
- Your first-launch answers
- Your answers to the habit and goal questions asked when you first open the app, and the reminder times you chose. Used to shape the app's suggestions around you.
- Your subscription status
- Whether your subscription is active. Your payment details never reach us; payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google.
- Usage information
- Which sections you opened and where the app failed. Used to see what is useful and to find faults. These records are also tied to the random number above.
We call out location specifically because it is on this list: your location is stored with us. This should not be confused with the "never leaves your phone" guarantee we give for the focus unlock photo — that guarantee applies to the photo only.
Camera and photos
One of the ways to unlock the focus lock is to photograph your prayer rug or the Qur'an. Camera permission is requested for this.
The photo you take is examined only on your phone. It is never sent anywhere, never stored anywhere, and disappears when the app closes.
Only the camera is used; access to your photo library is not requested. The reason is about the purpose of the feature: unlocking with a saved photo removes the threshold of putting the phone down.
Permissions requested
Each permission is requested only when it is needed and can be withdrawn at any time in your phone's settings.
- Location
- For prayer times, qibla direction and nearby mosques. If you decline, the app keeps working; you choose your city manually.
- Camera
- To unlock focus with a photo. If you decline, you can unlock with dhikr instead.
- Notifications
- For prayer time and reminder notifications. Declining does not affect the rest of the app.
- Screen Time (iPhone)
- So the focus section can lock other apps. This permission only grants the ability to say which apps to lock. Information about which apps you use and for how long never leaves your phone and does not reach us.
Where data is shared
We do not sell your data and do not share it with anyone for advertising. Data goes to the following places so that the app can work:
- The data listed above is stored and processed on Google's cloud services. Usage and error records also go there.
- OpenStreetMap
- To find nearby mosques. Only the coordinates of the area being searched are sent; your number and no other information are sent. This only happens when you open the mosque section.
- Recitation provider
- To download the recording of the reciter you chose. Only which surah is requested is sent. Once a recording has downloaded, no further connection is made.
- AI provider
- The question you write in the "Ask a Scholar" section is passed to an AI service so that an answer can be produced. We recommend not writing personal information in your question. No data goes there unless you use that section.
- Apple and Google stores
- Subscription purchase, renewal and refunds are handled by the stores. Your payment details go directly to the store and do not reach us.
How long it is kept
- Data on your phone: until you delete the app.
- The record stored with us: until you ask for it to be deleted.
- Error records: no longer than ninety days.
- Usage records: after a period they become aggregated figures that cannot be linked to a person.
- Subscription records: the stores may hold these longer under financial regulations; we have no control over that period.
Deleting your data
Data on your phone
Deleting the app from your phone is enough. Your reading progress, counters, focus history and preferences go with it. Because that data was never sent to us, we hold no copy of it.
The record stored with us
To have your location, first-launch answers, subscription status and usage records deleted, you need to write to us.
- Open the Settings section in the app and copy the user number at the bottom of the page.
- Write to support@niyetapp.co. "Data deletion request" in the subject line is enough.
- Include the number you copied. Without it we cannot determine which record to delete.
- We send a confirmation that we received your request, and a second email once the deletion is complete.
Because the app has no accounts and your number matches none of your personal details, we have no other way to verify that a record genuinely belongs to you. Sending the number is therefore necessary — not a formality, but the only way to avoid deleting the wrong person's data.
Deletion is completed within thirty days at the latest. Copies in backups disappear within ninety days. Purchase records held by the stores are outside our access and cannot be deleted by us; for those you need to contact the relevant store. If you also want to end your subscription, you must cancel it separately through your store account — deleting data does not cancel a subscription.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you have the following rights:
- To learn what data we hold about you and request a copy
- To have incorrect or incomplete information corrected
- To request that your data be deleted
- To request that processing be restricted
- To receive your data in a readable format
- To object to the collection of usage records
- Not to be treated differently for exercising these rights
If you reside in Türkiye these rights arise from Article 11 of Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK); in Europe from the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); in California from the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). You also have the right to complain to your country's data protection authority.
To exercise your rights, write to support@niyetapp.co. We respond within thirty days at the latest.
Children
The app is not directed at any particular age group and does not knowingly collect data from children. If we learn that we have collected data belonging to a child under thirteen, we delete it. If your child has used the app and you want their data deleted, write to us.
Security and international transfers
Communication between the app and our servers is encrypted, and records are held so that only their own owner can reach them. It should also be said that no security measure is absolute; in the event of a breach we will notify you within the periods required by law.
Obsy Mobile LLC is established in the United States, and the servers of the services we use may be located in other countries. Your data may therefore be transferred outside the country you live in.
Changes and contact
We update this text when a new section is added to the app or the way we process data changes. The date at the top of the page is refreshed with every change; for a significant change we also notify you inside the app.
For any question about this policy, write to support@niyetapp.co.
