Every answer below describes how the app actually behaves. Where an answer is "no" or "partly", it says so.
General
What is Niyet for?
It lets you organise the day's worship from one place: prayer times, Qur'an reading, dhikr, qibla and the Hijri calendar. On top of that, if you want to cut down your screen time, there is a focus section that locks apps and makes you unlock them with dhikr or a photo of your prayer rug.
Who is it for?
Anyone who follows prayer times, wants to read the Qur'an regularly, or is trying to make dhikr part of the day. It is not built around a particular school or interpretation; the calculation method and the translation are selectable.
Which languages are available?
The interface is in eleven languages: Turkish, English, Arabic, French, Azerbaijani, Hindi, Indonesian, Malay, Kazakh, Bengali and Urdu. Arabic and Urdu read right to left. Qur'an translations are currently in Turkish; in other languages the Arabic text and transliteration are shown.
Are there ads?
No. No ads are shown anywhere in the app and no third-party ad network is used.
Subscription
How does the subscription work?
A single subscription covers the whole app. There are no separately purchased sections, locked features or add-on packs — once subscribed, everything is open.
How much is it?
The current price is shown on the App Store and Google Play in your own currency. We do not print a figure here: store prices vary by country and change over time, and repeating them on the site only creates the risk of the two diverging.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
The subscription runs through your store account, not through the app. On iPhone go to Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions; on Android open Google Play > Subscriptions. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the current period.
I changed phones — what happens to my subscription?
The subscription is tied to your store account. Sign in on the new device with the same Apple or Google account and run "restore purchases" in the app, and your subscription is recognised.
I would like a refund — what should I do?
Refunds are handled by the store, not by the app; we have no authority to refund a purchase. For Apple use reportaproblem.apple.com; for Google Play open a request through your order history in Play.
Privacy
Why is my location needed?
Prayer times, qibla direction and nearby mosques are all calculated from your location. The times are computed on the device, but your location is saved to your account so that you do not have to set things up again on a new device. You can use the app without granting location permission; in that case you pick your city manually.
Where does the photo I take to unlock focus go?
Nowhere. The photo is examined only on your device, is never sent to any server and is never stored. Only the camera is used, not the gallery — unlocking with a saved photo would defeat the purpose of the feature.
Do I need to create an account?
No. We do not ask for an email address, a password or a phone number. The app creates an anonymous identifier in the background; it is used to carry your settings and progress across devices, not to identify you.
What data is kept?
Reading progress, dhikr counters, focus history and preferences are kept on your device. Your location, technical details such as the app version, your onboarding answers and your subscription status are kept on the server against your anonymous identifier. The privacy policy sets this out item by item.
How can I have my data deleted?
Data on your phone goes when you delete the app. For the record stored with us you need to write to us; the "Deleting your data" section of the privacy policy explains the steps.
Technical
Does it work without internet?
Largely, yes. The Qur'an text, translations, dhikr, hadith and the Names ship with the app, and prayer times are calculated on the device. Three things need a connection: the first listen of a recitation, nearby mosques, and Ask a Scholar.
Notifications are not arriving — what should I do?
First confirm that notification permission is enabled for the app in system settings. On Android, battery optimisation may also be restricting it; Niyet needs to be excluded from optimisation. Also check which prayers are enabled in the app's notification settings.
Why does the focus section ask for Screen Time permission?
On iOS, locking other apps is only possible with the Screen Time (Family Controls) entitlement. That permission lets the app say which apps to lock; information about which apps you use and for how long never leaves the device.
How do I add the widgets?
On iPhone, press and hold an empty area of the home screen, tap the plus at the top left and choose Niyet; for the lock screen you need to enter lock screen editing. On Android, press and hold the home screen and pick it from the widget list.
Which devices does it work on?
iPhone and Android phones. Because the app lock in the focus section relies on the Screen Time entitlement on iOS, its behaviour differs between the platforms.
